Sending information to NAIT
Information can be uploaded to the NAIT system by:
- Manually entering information into the system
or - Uploading a comma-separated value (CSV) file
or - Using the Common System Interface (CSI)
You can also provide information to NAIT by sending a paper form to NAIT, which will process the animal registration on your behalf. Please note using a paper form will attract a processing fee of $20 for the first 20 animals and $1 per additional animal after that.
Manually entering information
This method of providing NAIT with information will suit people with relatively few animals. It involves logging onto the NAIT system and entering the information directly into the screens.
Comma Separated Value (CSV) files
CSV files can be used to upload information to the NAIT system in bulk. Types of information that can be uploaded using a CSV file include:
- Animal registrations
- Updates to animal information
- Movement records
- Tag information
- Slaughter information.
CSV files must be in a format prescribed by NAIT, and can be created by:
- Manually creating an excel spreadsheet and saving it as a CSV file or
- Creating a file as an output from on-farm herd software or
- Creating a file by scanning animal tags and incorporating the scanned information into an excel spreadsheet.
Find out more about CSV files and formats.
After you have created the CSV file, upload it to the system by following the instructions provided.
To find out how to create a CSV file in the right format using your herd management software or your scanning wand, contact your software supplier or wand manufacturer. For more information about CSV file formats that can be used to send information to NAIT, see the IT developers page.
The Common System Interface (CSI)
The CSI is a web service interface that can be used to transact with the NAIT system. The CSI can be used to upload information to the NAIT system in bulk. Types of information that can be uploaded using the CSI include:
- Registrations and creation of NAIT numbers
- Animal registrations
- Updates to animal information
- Creation of movement records
- Upload of tag information
- Upload of slaughter information
This method of uploading information to the NAIT system requires a level of technical expertise and potentially advice from a development partner to ensure that a robust solution is developed.
Access to the CSI is by application only and we prefer organisations who wish to upload information to the NAIT system by CSI to be accredited with NAIT. Find out more about NAIT accreditation.
Information is bulk uploaded to the NAIT system in a prescribed SOAP/XML message (schema) using the CSI. For more information please go to the IT developers page which details what is required to upload information to the NAIT system by CSI.
