NAIT Bill passes third Parliamentary reading
16 February 2012
On 15 February 2012 the NAIT Bill passed its third and final reading in Parliament. Once the Governor-General has given the Bill the Royal assent, the NAIT Act will become law and come into effect on 1 July.
This is an important step for the National Animal Identification and Tracing (NAIT) scheme. It means both the obligation and exemption regulations, and cost recovery regulations can be finalised in preparation for the NAIT scheme being mandatory on 1 July for cattle and from 1 March 2013 for deer.
NAIT Limited will continue to focus on the practical implementation of the scheme including registration and education of people in charge of cattle and deer, and supporting communications, as well as commencement, obligation and exemption, and cost recovery regulations.
