What you can do to transition to NAIT

RFID tag reading requirements

We encourage you to have RFID readers installed and able to accurately read NAIT-approved RFID tags at each of your processing plants. Readers can be handheld or fixed, and located at your discretion.

When NAIT becomes mandatory, there will be a period where dual-reading of barcoded and RFID tags will be required. NAIT aims to make this dual-reading period as short as possible.

Software and systems

We encourage you to update your software and systems. They will need to:

  • record and report back to NAIT animal movements to, and from, your processing plants
  • report slaughter information

To assist you with updating your systems, NAIT Ltd will provide interface specifications directly to you (or your software supplier). We will also work with you through the testing phase of NAIT to ensure your systems are compatible with NAIT and they are working correctly.

Additional information

Your organisation may also be interested in becoming NAIT-accredited

Being NAIT-accredited means that you can record animal movements on behalf of farmers sending livestock to your plant. Being NAIT-accredited will therefore allow you to offer an additional service to your customers.
