Costs for meat processors
You will have additional costs in relation to the NAIT scheme.
You will be required to meet the cost of installing an RFID (radio frequency identification device) reader at each of your processing plants. You will also have to meet your own costs for modifying your software and systems to meet your NAIT obligations.
RFID tag readers
You will be required to install an RFID reader at each of your processing plants to accurately read NAIT-approved RFID tags.
NAIT does not recommend any particular make or model of RFID reader. It is recommended you consult a commercial supplier when considering your needs.
Costs will vary depending on the size and type of reader needed for your organisation.
Software and systems
You will need to update your software and systems to record and report back to NAIT:
- animal movements, to and from your processing plants
- slaughter information
Costs will vary depending on the extent to which you will need to modify your software and systems to meet your NAIT obligations. For exact software and system costs, you will need to contact your software supplier.
