Meat Processors
NAIT is mandatory for cattle and deer. Meat companies processing cattle and deer have obligations under the NAIT scheme.
Under the NAIT scheme every meat processing plant must have a registered person in charge of animals (PICA) who has a NAIT number for that location.
The person in charge of animals is required to:
- Provide NAIT with records of animals slaughtered at the meat processing facility
- Ensure all on-selling calves moving from the meat processing facility have been tagged with NAIT-approved RFID tags, and the movement is recorded with NAIT.
Registering as an organisation
Meat processors may wish to register with NAIT as organisations so they can appoint an organisation administrator to carry out certain functions on behalf of the organisation. To find out more please see the NAIT fact sheet Registering an organisation or, to register as an organisation, call the NAIT contact centre on 0800 624 843.
Become NAIT-accredited
Your company may be interested in becoming NAIT-accredited. Being NAIT-accredited means you can record animal movements on behalf of farmers sending livestock to your plant.
