Livestock companies requirements

You have specific requirements in relation to the NAIT scheme.

RFID tag reading requirements

We encourage you to have RFID readers installed and able to accurately read NAIT-approved RFID tags at each of your sale yards ready for when NAIT becomes mandatory. Readers can be handheld or fixed, and located at your discretion.

Software and systems

We encourage you to update your software and systems so you can record animal movements to and from sale yards onto the NAIT database.

To help you update your systems, we will give you the database's technical specifications to you or your software supplier. We will also work with you to make sure that your systems are compatible with NAIT.

Appointing a Person in Charge of Animals (PICA) requirement

You will need to appoint a PICA (person in charge of animals) at each sale yard you operate at. They will be responsible for meeting NAIT obligations.

NAIT data reporting requirements

You will be required to report information to NAIT about animal movements to, and from, your sale yards. You will be able to submit information to the NAIT database either system-to-system or over the internet.

Additional information

Your organisation may also be interested in becoming NAIT-accredited. This means you will be able to record animal movements to the sale yard you operate at on behalf of the sending farmer.
