Apply for Accreditation
How to apply for accreditation
Under the NAIT scheme, cattle and deer will be tagged with a NAIT-approved RFID ear tag. From 1 July 2012, it will be mandatory for farmers to submit animal movement data to NAIT Limited to secure a complete chain of animal tracking.
NAIT-accredited information providers will be able to provide information to NAIT Limited to help people in charge of cattle or deer meet their NAIT obligations.
An individual or organisation may apply to be accredited as an information provider and/ or an entity dealing with NAIT animals. Entities likely to apply for accreditation are meat processors and stock agents working at sale yards handling cattle and deer and also those likely to assist farmers by collating data and sending it to NAIT to meet their reporting requirements.
To apply for NAIT accreditation you need to follow three steps.
Please note that the process is the same for both, information providers and entities dealing with NAIT animals. Entities dealing with NAIT animals may also apply to be an information provider.
Step 1. Fill out forms and mail to NAIT Limited
Please complete the following documents on behalf of the entity (an individual or an organisation) applying for accreditation:
- Application for Accreditation (pdf)
- Accreditation Assurance and Undertaking to Comply (pdf)
- Data-Sharing Agreement for Accreditation (pdf)
The completed documents are to be mailed to

Step 2. Payment of Fee
The payment of a fee (NZ $500 / GST inclusive) is a legislative requirement in order to become NAIT-accredited. The payment must arrive within the same time as the application.
Payments must be made by direct credit or by cheque to NAIT Limited.
Payment by Direct Credit
The $500 accreditation application fee may be paid by direct credit into NAIT Limited’s bank account <02-0500-0977678-000>
Include your organisation’s name in the reference field as it appears on the application form.
Payment by Cheque
You can attach a cheque made out to NAIT Limited with your application.
Please note your GST receipt for the payment of the fee will only be issued upon receiving full accreditation.
Step 3. NAIT IT Testing
The best method to transfer the animal data to NAIT Limited is to work online. To ensure you are able to access the NAIT system you will be contacted by NAIT Limited with details on the system testing process.
Provisional Accreditation
The NAIT legislation is set to come into effect on 1 July 2012. Until that time NAIT Limited will only grant provisional accreditation.
Provisional accreditation is dependant on the successful completion of testing your system’s compatibility with each component of the NAIT system and the implementation of the legislation.
All provisionally accredited entities that have met the requirements outlined in the Accreditation Standard will be granted full accreditation when the legislation comes into effect.
